Alberta Pension Reform Comes Undone

Target benefit pension plans in Alberta were dealt a death blow when the legislature was prorogued. Bill 10, which would have allowed conversion of accrued benefits, will not be reintroduced when the new legislative session opens in November. Administrators can now only use target benefit plans for future service benefits. As a result, there will be trouble on the horizon unless the solvency moratorium is extended.
